What kind of books can I find in the book shop?
The entirety of our inventory is supplied by donations from the community. Our Second Story Book Shop’s stocks new and gently used bestsellers, fiction and non-fiction, children’s classics, homeschool/educational materials, puzzles and so much more! We sell both paperbacks and hardcover.
What books do you accept for donation?
Our selection changes based on need and current inventory. Book Donations can be left at the Friends Second Story Book Shop. The Brentwood Library does not accept book donations. The easiest way to find out what is currently accepted is to so contact us! Phone: (925) 516-5284
Donations not accepted include Textbooks, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Time-Life books, Cookbooks, CD/DVD, Records, Magazines, and Bibles.
Please check first if you have a large number of books to donate.
How many times do you have book sales?
We have twice annual community sales and smaller, themed, pop-up sales quarterly.
How do I find out when book sales are held?
Our sales are listed on our website, on social media, the local media, and advertised inside and outside the library.
When is the book shop open? If no one is in the book shop, can I still buy a book?
Our shop is open library hours, and we are staffed Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If a volunteer is not present for payment, you may use a cash drop box located on the wall behind our desk. Our Amazon shop is open 24/7.
How is the money spent that the Friends raise?
Our funds are given back to the library in the form of funding library programs like story times, community programs like the Literary Stroll, materials, supplies, and minor maintenance for the library.
